Five Wainwrights Above Haweswater

Sunday. No plan, good forecast, so we got in the car and drove to Haweswater.

13km, around 850m of climbing, five Wainwrights: High Street, The Knott, Rampsgill Head, High Raise and Kidsty Pike.

Just going

This was me and Michaela, decided on more or less the morning of. There was nothing organised about it. The weather was good, it's summer, and there is only so much of that you get in a year in this country.

That's most of the reason we've been in the Lakes so much lately. Make the most of it while it's here.

The round

Haweswater is on the eastern edge of the Lakes and it's quieter than most of it. The High Street round takes you up onto a long flat top with an old Roman road running along it, which is a strange thing to be walking on halfway up a mountain.

Kidsty Pike is the one people photograph, and rightly. The Knott, Rampsgill Head and High Raise come almost as a set once you're up there, which is how you end up with five Wainwrights out of a day that never really felt like a big one.

Five hours out, most of it in the sun.

Still not running

I haven't run since the 27th of June. The Achilles is fine on a hill and no good on the flat, which still makes no sense to me.

But it was a good day out, and days like that are easier to get than a run is at the moment.
